15 FOUNDATIONS FOR WOMEN OF COLOR

A while ago I was on Facebook participating in a post about Black Women and their favorite foundations and makeup. I was reading recommendations for makeup and was amazed to see Black makeup artists and consumers promoting brands that don’t cater to them on a broader level. The most important part of a woman’s makeup is her foundation, her base. To spend money on companies that flippantly say to women of color–We don’t feel the need to invest in your complexion, but feel free to spend money on all of our other products. I say–Hell No!  I am a black makeup artists whose clients range in all skin colors. I have dedicated years of my life to learning and perfecting working on all complexions. My kit is universal, it goes from the lightest porcelain to the darkest ebony. No longer will I split my products because a line stops at Tan. I support companies who have products that cater to all of my clients, not just a small fraction.

I will not endorse or carry brands in my kit that will not produce complexions for women universally, specifically black women. Why is it so hard for a major corporation to cater to women of color, I just don’t understand? This is not 1975 this is 2015, and it is time for a change. What I am proposing is a transition of the way you purchase makeup. For you to realize just how those companies view women of color. It’s fine for us to purchase that pricey eyeliner, lipstick, and eyeshadow. Inquire about a foundation in our shades and we get,   Oh-well, we haven’t gotten around to that yet. Then my reply, I’ll take my business to the company that does have my color.

Black Dollars Matter!  I grow frustrated when I see lines that have 8 shades of beige and 2-3 for WOC, but yet Black folks love to put these products in their kits or makeup bags.  Why don’t those same black dollars matter to the beautiful black people who are spending their hard-earned money? Looking for Luxury–it’s here, looking for great products I promise you it’s here. They’re here for everyone.

Black women hues range in the lightest of complexions, like a beautiful sandy beach of Jamaica,  to the darkest blue/black of the deepest sapphire.  These are companies that do not stop at the color “tan”. They move past it into the colors of a black women’s rainbow, while still incorporating lighter tones for a universal palette. I am so proud to present this list of amazing products from luxury brands, to prestige to drugstore.

  1. These are consumer brands that are also used by PRO Makeup Artists and  represent us well.  All brands listed are either fully dedicated to women of color, or supply at least half of their shades to (W-O-C).   They have taken their time, and their dollars to invest in US, why not invest in them?
  2. Some brands listed in my pervious foundations article, have either been pushed off this list due to new additions, or I haven’t had time to review the line again.
  3. All choices are long-lasting, cover extremely well–and gives you a total bang for your buck! They are all solely chosen by me.  I have used all–with exceptions noted.

There are more suggestions coming. Look for my post of PRO PRODUCTS FOR WOC COMING SOON.  If you don’t see your favorite consumer brand on here let me know.  Otherwise be on the look out for my next consumer blogpost in 2016. PRO FOUNDATIONS BLOGPOST TO COME!!!!!
